Related to my earlier post replacement backplane board, I decided not to wait too long - so I bought a brand new one at amazon.
After installing, it behaved exactly the same way. So my 5-year old one is not faulty?
What is this behaviour: loaded 3x 8tb disks from the bottom up (4-3-2) and the bottom disk has always power, while the other two not.
So I used a 300gb test disk: when in slot 4: ok; in slot 3 notok; in slot 2 ok; in slot 1 notok.
I also noticed that the fan spins only when the disk receives power.
Maybe faulty sata power connectors? So I installed a molex to 2x sata power; but it behaved the same way?
The PSU is about 10 months old and has been switched on / off only on a monthly basis - as this NAS is a backup device. The PSU is a Sylverstone FX350-G (FlexATX).
I had moved the mini-ITX built from (Inter-Tech IPC SC 4004) to a larger case (iStarUSA S-35) and with this MB074SP-1B just for the cooling feature - as I found the NAS drives getting to hot in the earlier Mini-ITX case.
So both the 5-year old cage as well as the brand new one have same issues.
So, what am I doing wrong - missing here?
Is the MB074SP-1B more power hungry than the backplane in the Inter-Tech IPC SC 4004 (all other hardware is the same)?
Thanks and kind regards,
Herwig
